Delight the Terps fan in your life with our brand new Maryland Terrapins history book. Through newspaper articles printed at the time, from 1939 onward, this personalized gift looks back over decades of Maryland football highlights from College Park and beyond, covering bowl games, conference titles and the team’s 1953 National Championship.
Competing since all the way back in 1892, the most thriving period in Maryland football was the 1950s. Under coach Big Jim Tatum, the Terrapins rounded off a perfect 1951 season with a win over Tennessee in the Sugar Bowl. Several selectors have retroactively dubbed the team national champions. Two years later, the team captured their one and only claimed national title with another perfect season, the only one in the nation that year. The program also had spells of success in the seventies and eighties, winning three straight ACC conference titles in both decades.
