About this book

It’s June 1996. 76,000 Wembley fans have just seen England take a 2-0 victory over Scotland, sealed by Gazza’s wonder goal. St. Georges flags fly around the stadium, to a chorus of ‘Football’s Coming Home’. The opener against Switzerland was disappointing, but this – this feels special. This is the sound of England fans who truly believe their team can go all the way.

All England fans know this feeling – the shared excitement of knowing England have the team to win the tournament. Of course, they’ve only won a single tournament in their history. But there have been some epic stories along the way.

This book takes England fans back through that history, going all the way back to 1905. Through authentic newspaper reports written at the time, it’s a chance to reminisce about the near misses, the penalty dramas, the classic matches, and of course that one summer day in 1966.

If we included every article then the book would be too big to print. We have edited the book to include the most interesting articles about their victories, and defeats, to tell the the full story of the team's history.
