After losing Super Bowl II to the Green Bay Packers, the Raiders managed to become champions in their division eight years out of nine. Unfortunately, significant losses came after, when the team was defeated at two AFL Championship games and four AFC Championship games. However, under the coaching of John Madden, they went 13-1 in the regular season before winning their first Lombardi Trophy following their defeat of the Minnesota Vikings in the 1976 season. In the next seven years, the team competed in two Super Bowls, with the second one occurring after the team’s move south down to Los Angeles. The Raiders became the second most successful team in Super Bowl history after winning both games. The team moved back to Oakland in 1995, but not permanently – they announced plans in 2017 to move to Las Vegas in 2020.
