About this book

The set is two hours in. But the Pyramid Stage crowd aren’t ready to say goodbye just yet. Fireworks rattle into the night sky, the smell of smoke filling the air. On stage, eyes are lowered in concentration behind orange-lensed glasses. Sir Elton John hammers away at piano keys in the final chorus of Rocket Man. Forget him? I think it’s gonna be a long, long time.

THIS book chronicles the fifty years leading up to this moment at Glastonbury 2023, through the headlines and column inches that Sir Elton John racked up along the way.

We begin in 1972, when Honky Château was the first of Sir Elton’s albums to top the charts. The stories take us through the star’s musical high points of the 70s, and the career highs that followed: his knighthood in 1998, on-screen musical hits, and the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

You’ll look back at how the tabloids reported on the legend’s personal life, too – the singer’s journey with his sexuality, his marriage to David Furnish and the birth of their sons. And of course, pages are devoted to Sir Elton’s friendship with Princess Diana, and the performance of Candle in the Wind at her funeral.
