What's in this book?

This coffee table book opens with the front page from the day the recipient was born – followed by the cover story for every birthday since. A journey back in time through world affairs, politics, sport, fads, fashions and everything else that defined the era each time they were blowing out their candles.

The Telegraph is one of the oldest and most influential newspapers in the UK. Founded in 1885 by Arthur B. Sleigh, The Telegraph has long been a British ‘newspaper of record’, with its in-depth coverage of politics, culture, the royal family and sport.

Archivist insight: We reproduce these newspaper articles from scan archives. In some cases, there’ll be blemishes and the reproduction quality might not be as clear or precise as it was in the original paper.

Personalised Birthday Newspaper Book Telegraph Edition FAQs

How long will this book take to arrive?

Each of our orders is printed on demand, made special just for you and the reader you’ve created it for! Typically, it takes 1-3 days for our workshops to receive, make, and finally hand each order over to the postal carriers for delivery.

What name can I enter in the personalisation?

Enter the name as you wish it to be printed on the book. You have a maximum of 13 characters for the first name and surname – which is optional. Please only use standard characters that may be part of someone's name. This include accents. Make sure to double-check your spelling.

Do you include every single headline? Whatever the subject matter?

We do. We don’t edit history. Unless there was no newspaper produced on that day we include the headline whatever it is. We think that every headline is an important piece of history, and to skip over the not-so-nice ones would mean tampering with the story.

So the book will include every single headline from the year they were born until the present day?

Yes, but there are a few small caveats to this rule. Due to things like strikes and public holidays, sometimes a newspaper was simply not printed on a specific day.

Details below:
• If you're ordering for a birthday after 1998, your birthday newspaper book will include 25 historical newspaper front pages, each followed by a blank page. Handy for scribbling down stories and memories and attaching old photos.

• The birthday newspaper book will only include this year's birthday page if it is ordered 30 days after the selected date.

• No newspapers are printed on Christmas Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday or during strikes, in which case a front page from the day after will be used. Papers are also occasionally withdrawn for legal reasons.

What’s the earliest birthday you can accommodate for The Telegraph birthday books?

We can make books for anyone with a birthday from 1920 onwards (and we set the latest ‘start year’ as 1998 - anyone born later than this would have a very slim book!). Before this date, the quality of the newspapers gets a little patchy as they’re so old. The book will include headlines up to the last month: so if their birthday is 12th August 1971 and you order a book on the 13th September, your book will have a page from every year including this year.
